How can I download the free ringtones?
http://www.freemosquitoringtone.org has a good selection of various frequencies. You can test each of the tones to see if you can hear them. Download the highest frequency tone you can consistently hear by right click on the tone and select "Save Target As"(if you are using IE or Netscape) or "Save Link As"(if you are using firefox). Click OK and it should be download to your computer.
I can't hear any of the mosquito ringtones!
First try playing some other sound files on your computer such as music, movies, youtube, etc and see if the sound system in your computer is working properly and of the right volume. Then try playing this tone: http://www.freemosquitoringtone.org/tones/8000.mp3 If you still can't hear it then there might be something wrong with the browser association with an audio player. You may need to have someone take a look at your machine to make sure the audio player installed in your system is properly associated with your browser.
All of the ringtones comes up but the sound quality is very poor and distorted!
On some computer sound systems, if you turn the volume too high, the resulting distortion can be very loud and could be heard by people of all ages. Reduce the volume on your computer so that the 8khz tone can be heard clearly and comfortably, then you can try testing out the higher frequency tones to find one that fits your ear.
How do I know if the high frequency tone is playing if I can’t hear it?
The easy method is to have kids younger then yourself listen to it to see if they can hear them. Different people have different levels of sensitivity to high frequency ranges and maybe this particular tone you are trying to listen to is simply outside of your hearing range. If you prefer a more scientific approach, then simply download the tones you can’t hear and play it in the windows media player. While in the player, select View > Visualizations > Bars and Waves > Bars. After doing so, try to play the tone you can’t hear in the windows media player and you should see a visual representation of the sound indicating it is in fact being played in the audio spectrum. This way you know for a fact that the ringtone is being played. If you didn’t pick a tone that is totally out of your audible range and the room you are playing it in is quiet, you might be able to hear something if you concentrate on listening for the tone at the time you are playing it. - Your Age:
Just as people become less agile as they get older, your ear becomes less agile as you age. It’s a proven fact that the older you get, the less capable you are in detecting extremely high frequency sounds. Kids & teens can hear mosquito ringtones because their ear drums and inner ears are more active so they are capable of hearing the higher frequency sound waves.
- Hearing Loss Due To Loud Music Or Noise Pollution:
If you enjoy cranking up your music too much or live / work in an environment where there are lots of loud noises or sounds, your hearing may be damaged over time and your sensitivity to higher frequency sounds will suffer as a result.
- Background Noise, Acoustical Barriers, Volume, Or Other Natural Factors:
Obviously, if you try to hear the mosquito ringtones(or any ringtones for that matter) over a noisy environment you would have a hard time hearing them. Having the speakers on your cell phone blocked by a pouch, purse, or a pocket also reduces the ability for you to hear mosquito ringtones since high frequency sounds do not travel through barriers very well. Other factors such as volume on your phone and your distance from your phone also contribute to your ability to hear the ringtone.

- Brand Of Your Cellular Phone:
Not all speakers are designed to play high frequency sounds very well. Cell phone speakers are no exception. Different brands of cell phone come with various qualities of speakers and some are good but most cheap phones are very bad. A good quality speaker will be able to reproduce high frequency sounds with consistent volume. But, the efficiency of cheap speaker will drop off at higher frequency ranges which will reduce its volume.
- Computer Sound System:
All newer computers built within the last 5 years will have a sound system that is capable of playing these tones. However, older or poor quality speakers are a different story. Most computer systems come with very cheap speakers and they are not designed to reproduce high frequency sounds with high efficiency.
